Islam, being a complete code of life, provides guidance not only for one’s individual life but also for their roles and responsibilities toward the community as a whole. On the other hand, it also teaches us how to build a cohesive society based on best Islamic practices.
The Islamic concept of a Muslim community is primarily based on brotherhood (الأخوة) and solidarity or unity among the Muslims within a community as well as in the entire Muslim world. It is repeatedly emphasized in the Quran and Sunnah that all Muslims are like a family and that everyone in the society should live like brothers.
So, they need to share joys and sorrows with each other. They have to look after the interests of each other. The rich are required to extend financial support to the poor. No one should cheat or deceive others in an Islamic community. They are supposed to help out others who might be in need of monetary or moral support while passing through a. tough time.
The concept of brotherhood and solidarity among Muslims is based on love, affection, and respect for everyone. The Islamic brotherhood and solidarity are, in fact, the denial of racism and fascism. It also negates the sectarianism. Intolerance is believed to be one of the worst behaviors, which spoils the overall structure of a society. The Islamic concept of brotherhood also addresses it by promoting a culture of tolerance and giving respect to the views and beliefs of others.

1_The Verse 10 of Surah Al-Hujurat
اِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ اِخْوَۃٌ فَاَصْلِحُوْا بَيْنَ اَخَوَيْكُمْ وَاتَّقُوا اللہَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُوْنَ
Translation – Surely the believers are none but brothers unto one another, so set things right between your brothers, and have fear of Allah that you may be shown mercy.Here, it is categorically narrated that Muslims are brothers of each other; hence, they need to maintain peace, calmness, and tranquility among themselves. Simultaneously, they are also urged to have a fear of Allah سُبْحَانَهُۥ وَتَعَالَىٰ so that they may be benefitted from His mercy.
2_The Verse 103 of Surah alhujurat
واعتصموابِحَبْلِ اللہِ جَمِيْعًا وَّلَا تَفَرَّقُوْا۰۠ وَاذْكُرُوْا نِعْمَتَ اللہِ عَلَيْكُمْ اِذْ كُنْتُم اَعْدَاۗءً فَاَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوْبِكُمْ فَاَصْبَحْتُمْ بِنِعْمَتِہٖۗ اِخْوَانًا۰ۚ وَكُنْتُمْ عَلٰي شَفَا حُفْرَۃٍ مِّنَ النَّارِ فَاَنْقَذَكُمْ مِّنْھَا۰ۭ كَذٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللہُ لَكُمْ اٰيٰتِہٖ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَھْتَدُوْن
Translation – Hold fast together to the cable of Allah and be not divided. Remember the blessing that Allah bestowed upon you: you were once enemies then He brought your hearts together, so that through His blessing you became brothers. You stood on the brink of a pit of fire and He delivered you from it. Thus Allah makes His signs clear to you that you may be guided to the right way.In this verse, the Muslim brotherhood and solidarity is narrated in a different way. They are urged to hold together as brothers, by strictly following the way of Allah سُبْحَانَهُۥ وَتَعَالَىٰ. It is further narrated that those who were once enemies of each other, were brought together and blessed by Allah سُبْحَانَهُۥ وَتَعَالَىٰ. In this way, they were also protected from the punishment. That means, the brotherhood amongst the Muslims is also beneficial in the sense that they might be protected from the hellfire. That reflects the importance of brotherhood and solidarity among the Muslims.
3_The Verse 92 of Surah Al-Anbiya
اِنَّ ہٰذِہٖۗ اُمَّتُكُمْ اُمَّۃً وَّاحِدَۃً۰ۡۖ وَاَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاعْبُدُوْنِ
Translation – Verily this community of yours is a single community, and I am your Lord; so worship Me.It is narrated here that the entire Muslim community (Umma) is a single unit and that Allah سُبْحَانَهُۥ وَتَعَالَىٰ is the Only worth worship. The entire Muslim community, termed as a single entity (Umma), is the basis of the concept of brotherhood and solidarity among them.
4_The Verse 71 of Surah At-Tawba
وَالْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنٰتُ بَعْضُہُمْ اَوْلِيَاۗءُ بَعْضٍ۰ۘ يَاْمُرُوْنَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ وَيَنْہَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَيُقِيْمُوْنَ الصَّلٰوۃَ وَيُؤْتُوْنَ الزَّكٰوۃَ وَيُطِيْعُوْنَ اللہَ وَرَسُوْلَہٗ۰ۭ اُولٰۗىِٕكَ سَيَرْحَمُہُمُ اؙ۰ۭ اِنَّ اللہَ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ
Translation – The believers, both men and women, are allies of one another. They enjoin good, forbid evil, establish Prayer, pay Zakah, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Surely Allah will show mercy to them. Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.This verse narrates that all Muslim men and women are allies. They share the good with each other and perform religious rituals, which bring the mercy of Allah سُبْحَانَهُۥ وَتَعَالَىٰ for them.
5_Hadith 6065 of Sahih Al-Bukhari
This hadith narrates the importance of brotherhood in Islam.Translation – Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Do not hate one another, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert each other, and O, Allah’s worshipers! Be brothers. Lo! It is not permissible for any Muslim to desert (not talk to) his brother (Muslim) for more than three days.
6_Hadith 6951 of Sahih Al-Bukhari
This hadith emphasizes the brotherhood in Islam.
Translation – Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim. So he should neither oppress him nor hand him over to an oppressor. And whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs
7_Hadith 1571, Narrated in Balugh al-Maram
This Hadith mentions the virtue of protecting the honor of the Muslim brethren in their absence.
Translation – If a Muslim defends his brother’s honor in his absence, Allah will protect his face from the fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection.” Related by At-Tirmidhi who graded it to be Hasan.
